About the Department
Penrith City Council's City Planning Department is responsible for coordinating the long-term land use planning for the City. In this role, we deliver a range of programs and services including the development of long-term land use planning strategies and policies, city planning, regional planning, place-based planning projects and most importantly the preparation of new Local Environmental Plans, Development Controls Plans and Contributions Plans. We work with people in our communities and staff from across the organisation as well as state and federal agencies, businesses, and interest groups.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team player with relevant planning qualifications to take up the position of Senior Planner within the City Planning Department. The position of Senior Planner will contribute to a broad range of land use planning projects that will provide both amazing opportunities and challenges in the formulation of new or revised planning strategies and policies, planning for new urban release areas, master planning, place-based planning projects and the preparation of new Local Plans and supporting planning controls. A significant part of your planning work will involve working with and responding to our community, staff from within the organisation as well as state and federal agencies, businesses and interest groups.
This work will lead to amazing opportunities for our City as well as accepting the challenge as of balancing the growth, resilience and livability of our City. You will be part of a planning team that value free exchange of ideas and knowledge, collaboration, quality output and raising each other up and together we are seeking to develop a best practice planning framework for the Penrith community.
- Tertiary qualification in urban/town planning or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in the formulation and implementation of land-use planning policy, specifically development control plans
- Proven ability to establish, coordinate and/or operate with multi-disciplinary teams
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience with stakeholder and community engagement
- Strong analytical, project management and organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks, meet deadlines and achieve targets
- A Current Class C Driver Licence
- Experience working in a local government environment
- Experience in rapid growth area planning/management
- Demonstrated experience in projects requiring a high level of urban design outcomes
Salary $92,366.00 - $106,917.00 per annum, plus 9.5% superannuation
A Leaseback Vehicle is available with this position, however it is not a condition of employment.
A competitive salary will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications and experience of the preferred applicant.
