About the Department
Penrith City Council’s City Strategy Department leads the development of a strategy framework to guide future planning of Penrith. This includes the development of long term land use planning strategies and policies, regional planning and place-based planning projects. In developing strategy, we develop and maintain long term stakeholder relationships to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of a series of projects, involving local, state and federal Governments. In addition, we leverage opportunities including commitments through the Western Sydney City Deal.
About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team player with relevant planning qualifications to take up the position of Urban Strategist within the City Strategy Department. Focussing on urban and employment lands, this role will develop strategy to guide the growth and development of Penrith as part of a Metropolitan Cluster for the Western City District. In particular, this role will assist the City Strategy Department to shape Council’s strategic response to major infrastructure projects including North South Rail. This will include supporting working collaboratively with government to deliver integrated transport and land use planning projects and respond to the issues and challenges which are important to the City.
This work will lead to amazing opportunities for our City as well as accepting the challenge as of balancing the growth, resilience and livability of our City. You will be part of a planning team that value free exchange of ideas and knowledge, collaboration, quality output and raising each other up.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Policy Development, Planning, Economics or a relevant discipline
- Demonstrated extensive experience in the formulation and implementation of strategic and land- use planning policy
- Proven experience in effectively leading multi-disciplinary project teams responsible for examining complex and diverse planning issues
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience stakeholder and community engagement
- Strong analytical, project management and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks, meet deadlines and achieve targets
- Current Class C drivers licence
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience in a local government environment and/or the development industry
- Post graduate qualifications in urban planning / town planning or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in projects requiring a high level of urban design outcomes
Salary $100,282.00 - $116,080.00 per annum, plus 9.5% superannuation
A Leaseback Vehicle is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.
A competitive salary will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications and experience of the preferred applicant.
