About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team player with relevant planning qualifications to take up the position of Executive Planner within the City Planning Department. The position contributes to the effective development, co-ordination and management of planning and infrastructure delivery projects that meet Council’s Vision and Delivery Program objectives. This position also provides guidance, both within, and outside Council, that reflects Council’s aspirations and goals, and responds to the issues and challenges which are important to the City.
You will be part of a planning team that value the free exchange of ideas and knowledge, collaboration, quality output and raising each other up.
Essential criteria
- Tertiary qualification in urban / town planning or a related discipline
- Demonstrated extensive experience in the formulation and implementation of strategic and land- use planning policy
- Proven experience in effectively leading multi-disciplinary project teams responsible for examining complex and diverse planning issues
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience stakeholder and community engagement, including the fostering and maintaining of relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Strong analytical, project management and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks, meet deadlines and achieve targets
- Current Class C driver’s licence
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a local government environment
- Post graduate qualifications in urban planning / town planning or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation of contributions plans and negotiation of voluntary planning agreements
Salary: A competitive salary will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications and experience of the preferred applicant.
Access to a Leaseback Vehicle or Motor Vehicle Allowance is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.

The City Planning department is responsible for coordinating long term planning for the City. We deliver a range of programs and services including the development of long term land use planning strategies and policies, city planning, regional planning and place-based planning projects.
