Are you interested in frontline customer service and an exciting career at the same time? Penrith City Council is looking for two enthusiastic, professional Library Assistants to join their Library Services team on a permanent part-time basis.
About the role
The Penrith City Library Service provides informational, educational and recreational resources and services for residents and visitors through three branch libraries, community events and pop-up libraries, Home Library Service, Children's Services, Resources, Research Services (local history) and Toy Library Service.
As a Library Assistant, you will be working in a fast-paced environment, across three library branches, and including evening and weekend shifts. The role consists of front desk, face to face and telephone customer service enquiries and service, checking in and shelving of returned items, providing digital literacy assistance and other collection processing duties.
You will be joining an enthusiastic, friendly and efficient team and be proactive and willing to meet the challenges of adapting to changing technologies used in the delivery of library services to the community.
If you can demonstrate outstanding customer service skills, have good computer skills, are flexible and enthusiastic, have proven experience in working in a team environment and enjoy the challenges of adapting to technological changes, then this could be the position for you.
Two permanent part-time (17.5 hours) positions are available to commence immediately, as per the following rosters:
Vacancy 1
Wednesday - 1:15 - 8:15pm
Friday - 9:30am - 5:00pm
Saturday 1:15 - 5:15pm
Vacancy 2
Monday - 1:00 - 8:00pm
Tuesday - 9:30am - 5:00pm
Saturday - 1:15 - 5:15pm

Essential Criteria:
- Year 12 Higher School Certificate or equivalent
- High level of interpersonal and customer service skills and experience
- Demonstrated skills in using online systems, mobile devices and applications
- Demonstrated skills using library equipment, including scanners, printers and photocopiers
- Ability to work effectively in a busy team environment
- Flexibility to work rostered shifts across seven days, including evening and weekend hours
- Current Class C Driver's Licence
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in a public library
- Flexibility to cover emergency roster shifts
Commencing Salary: $33.55 per hour, plus 12% superannuation. Further salary progression is available through Council’s Salary Administration System.
