About the Governance department
Governance delivers a range of programs and services, including the provision of governance advice and the delivery of governance awareness initiatives, administrative support to Councillors, management of internal databases and Council records, supervising business paper preparation and minute taking, undertaking research on best practice governance and supporting Council’s internal stakeholders.
About the role
As the Head of Governance, you will manage the operations of Council’s Governance, Print Services and Information Management teams and provide complex advice to the Mayor, General Manager and Councillors on a variety of matters.
Essential criteria
- Degree qualifications in a relevant discipline applicable to the role
- A minimum of five years’ relevant management experience
- A comprehensive knowledge of administration and governance services, records management
- Demonstrated understanding of and expertise in current practices, policy directions and priorities relating to delivering the services of the Office of the General Manager
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify emerging issues, trends and risks, and impacts and the expertise to resolve complex operational program and service delivery issues
- Demonstrated advanced negotiation and influencing skills. The ability to create consensus, resolve disputes and broker agreement to proposals and ideas
Desirable criteria
- A sound knowledge of the Local Government Act 1993 and Regulations, with previous experience working in local government.
Salary: The salary for this position ranges from $196,312.00 - $227,237.00 per annum, plus 12% Superannuation, and will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications and experience of the preferred applicant.
This position comes with a Motor Vehicle arrangement, which will be discussed with the preferred candidate; however, it is not a condition of employment.
You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied. Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, in order to progress through the recruitment process.
