Here’s what you’ll be up to…
- Investigate, resolve and provide advice in relation to development, private swimming pool barrier, environmental and land use compliance matters
- Develop and implement environmental and land use compliance policy, education, training and audit programs
- Support development and implementation of environmental compliance policies and audit programs
- Collaborate with internal teams, community members and stakeholders
- Prepare evidence for enforcement action including court proceedings
Who we are (And why you’ll love us)
Our Development Compliance team work to protect the environment and maintain the integrity of the planning system by ensuring development, land use and environmental activities comply with statutory approvals, planning controls and environmental legislation. We undertake compliance, investigation and enforcement functions to ensure development occurs in line with approvals and to resolve environmental impacts on the community.
What are we looking for?
- Passion for protecting the environment and sustainable development
- Previous experience in POEO matters investigating illegal vegetation clearing, importation of fill onto private land and regulating industrial and commercial businesses
- Strong communication and conflict‑resolution skills
- Enjoys problem solving and investigative work
- Thrives in impactful, community‑focused work
- Experience applying the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, particularly in relation to investigating illegal vegetation clearing, the importation of fill onto private land and the regulation of industrial and commercial premises
- Completed or currently enrolled in tertiary qualification relating to Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Environment Planning, Environmental Health & Building Surveying or a related discipline

You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied.
Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, to progress through the recruitment process.
